Explore the outdoors with conservation in mind, everyone will enjoy a visit to the wetland boardwalks, fishing docks, and other adventures the Sea Pines Forest Preserve offers.
The Sea Pines Forest Preserve
First started in the 1970s, the preserve now offers plenty of trails, bridle paths, wetland boardwalks, bridges, fishing docks, and more. You can explore its over 600 acres for hours on your own or with experiences provided by tour companies. Entry is free, but donations are appreciated. Please wear a mask on public tours.
There are plenty of ways to see every inch of the preserve. Strike out on your own on foot or bicycle to see it your way. If you’d rather have knowledgeable locals guiding your experience, there are boat tours and fishing expeditions, horseback rides, and even wagon tours through the preserve that will offer plenty of inside information about the preserve and its features. Don’t forget your camera!
Points of Interest
However you explore, make sure to include some of the most popular points of interest. Visit the Sea Pines Shell Ring, a 4,000-year-old archaeological site that’s the oldest known site on Hilton Head. Stop by in spring and see the native flora in bloom at the Warner W. Plahs Wildflower Field near the lakes, explore the secluded forest on the boardwalk through the Vanishing Swamp, or view marshes and wildlife from a boardwalk at Old Lawton Rice Field. Finish it off with a picnic along the banks of Fishing Island.
